Where do you go to get your brain scan wit PET scan?

neurologists? or other specialist?

thanks

Ct scan and Pet scan are different.

Its called CT. Scan...
They have private centers all over. You can search over net. it depends on the city you are living...

your doctor will order the test if it is medically necessary and the office will schedule the appointment for you. they will contact you with the time and locale.

PET (Positron Emission Technology) scanners - the latest and greatest in radiology/scanning technology. Mostly found at hospitals - due to cost. Your physician can order a PET scan for you - chances are your family MD will refer you to specialist - who may then order the test.
There may be some centers that are "free standing" where you can have this test done - although as I mentioned - the technology is very expensive - so they might be difficult to find.
Good luck

I had to take my mom to have a PET scan last year.. It's a more complete imaging than a CAT scan, and they didn't have the machine at any of the hospitals or doctor's offices or clinics in the relatively small town where she lives. We had to go to a larger town about 45 minutes away, and it was a special place that only does that kind of imaging. It's an interesting procedure, relatively uncomplicated for the patient. Don't be nervous.

You can get a referral to have a PET scan done by your primary physician, but most often it comes from a neurologist, neurosurgeon. PET scans are extremely expensive compared to alternative scans such as a CAT scan, but they were developed to outdo the CAT scan, and they are well worth the money.

You can get them done at a hospital, or for cheaper at some radiology freestanding centers. You don't actually go to a doctor's office to get them done. They give you an order for one at a place that they feel can meet your needs.

Another thing to consider, since you're asking this question, I'm assuming you're going to suggest to a physician of some sort that you have a PET scan done. Make absolute sure that you're insurance will cover it before having it done. Or that you can pay for it out of pocket if not. Many insurance companies will not pay for a PET scan, and if you're covered by an HMO, be prepared to fight for the test to be done, fighting both the doctor and the HMO.
