Doing a pap smear again because the gynecologist did not take enough cells doing the pap smear? |
Went to the doctor to have my pap smear done (September 5th) and a week later I get a call from the doctor's office asking me to come back in next week (September 19th) to have another pap smear done because the gynecologist did not take enough cells doing the pap smear. Has this ever happen to any women out there? I don't think I should have to pay again for this pap smear as this was not my fault. I just want to know if this has happened to other women. I asked the girl whom I made my appointment with and she said that this does happen. yup.. im in my 50,s and i have had to go back maybe 7 times in the 40 years ive had them.. not a problem really, just means that the technician doesnt have enough to really get a good reading,, its always best to go back and have it done again,, just make sure you "DONT PAY" (If you pay for them) the second time around... Yes, it happens. You should not have to pay. During a pap, cells are taken from the endocervical canal and if the sample does not contain enough cells, the tech cannot read it. It's normal for this to occur, however, it's unfair that you should have to pay for another test because of his mistake. Talk to your Dr. before the test is performed. Explain your concerns and make sure the test will be covered before he/she does anything. |
