Pap smear...?

how long does it take...does it feel weird...is it embarrasing? need some feedback

The actual taking of the smear only takes a second. Yes, it can have a slight sensation, usually not bad. However, it is done together with having a pelvic exam, and I never found that to be particularly comfortable. But most doctors are considerate and get done as quick as possible. I usually feel embarressed, but remember, the doctors see a lot of people in a day, while you only see him once. (in other words, he's seen a lot other's besides yours).

A couple of minutes... it doesnt hurt and doctors have seen everything, so NO need to be embarrassed.

The pap smear itself just takes a few seconds. The rest of the pelvic exam, such as the doctor feeling with their fingers to make sure everything is okay, takes just a couple of minutes. It does feel a bit odd, but not really painful or all that uncomfortable. You can have a crampy feeling during or afterward, but it's usually not very bad. I can't really say its not embarrassing, especially the first time, but the doctors always try to make the situation as relaxing and uncomfortable as possible.

Don't worry about it, though. Once it's over you really won't think it was that bad.

the pap takes 5 minutes. it is a little uncomfortable, mostly because your behind is hanging off the end of the table and your feet are in the stirrups. It should not hurt. it is necessary to test for cervical cancer and stds. the entire exam takes about 30 minutes including medical history forms and questions and a breast exam. You shouldn't feel embarrassed. It is important to have the test done to make sure you are healthy. It might make you feel more comfortable to have a female doctor. Good Luck!
