-----what im wondering is, is this possible???if i have HPV, how does the pap smear come back NORMAL???can anyone tell me??
also, i asked to get the hpv dna test, but that cost like 100
dollars..is it worht it??how many of you guys took the hpv dna test for free ?or less than 100 dollars

edit: so does that mean...i should worry about cervical cancer???

Condyloma accuminatum aka genital warts are caused by HPV, which has many many many different serotypes. Most common for gential warts are serotypes 6 and 11, which are the least likely to cause cancer.

The Pap smear is used to look for atypical pre-cancerous cells on the Cervix whereas the warts could be on any surface, not necessarily the cervix and thus the Pap smear is normal. The HPV serotype which causes Cervical cancer the most are16 and 18.

Dont know anything about the price of the test, but it would distinguish the actual serotype you have.

HPV doesn't necessarily indicate changes in cells that would result in a bad pap smear. It COULD, however. Just be sure to keep getting pap smears.

The Pap Smear checks for changes in the cells of your cervix. The Pap test can tell if you have an infection, abnormal (unhealthy) cervical cells, or cervical cancer.

HPV can infect the genital area of men and women including the skin of the penis, vulva (area outside the vagina), or anus, and the linings of the vagina, cervix, or rectum.

Therefore, the pap came back normal for cervical cancer and abnormal cervical cells, but was abnormal for the HPV.

The Human Papilloma Virus can infect many areas...the anus, labia, the perineum, inside the vaginal walls and the cervix. If your pap test came back normal, then there wasn't any HPV on your cervix...rest easy. The warts must be inside the vagina or on the external area. Have you noticed them? They appear to be tiny light pink raspberry looking lesions. You can't get cervical cancer from HPV on unless they are on the cervix. Your doctor should have recommended you come back fro several treatments to getr rid of them. In the meatime, if you are sexually active, have your partner wear a condom. Once treated and gone they won't reappear. But...where did you get them from? Check your partner out for the warts too...if he has them and they aren't treated, you'll get them back again. Good luck.

I felt the same way...had the same question.
Don't stress HPV is very common and not dangerous unless left unteated.

Take care of you're genital warts. The virus will be in you're system forever but, you're immune system will eventually fight it off. You are less likely to have a re-occurance of warts since only 22% have a re-occurance.

Tell you're partner, have him get checked and wear condoms always. Condoms won't protect you 100% but, will cause less risk of infections. Also tell him in a calm manner. NO NEED TO STRESS...educate youreself.
