Pap smear scared?

i was told i will need a pap smear in 10 days and not sure how to prepare myself i am scared as. will it hurt and can a DOCTOR tell me what goes on in a pap smear. as it is my first will it hurt. i need help.

talk to your doctor about what is happening... most doctors are really good, and will talk you through and show you on models exactly what they're doing (plastic models, not Elle McPherson type models lol).

It's generally not comfortable, but not painful either. It is important to check for any abnormalities in the cervix, as this is one of the first ways to check for cancer.

Every female needs them, particularly if you are using hormonal contraceptive, or have ever been sexually active. Not sure where you're from, but in Australia, a vaccine against cervical cancer has been developed, as it was found that the majority of cervical cancers were caused by the Human Papiloma Virus.

Just keep the lines of communication open with your doctor. It's your body, as as many questions as you think of!

ps... ask them to warm the equipment first!

There's nothing to worry about, it's a bit uncomfortable, but it's not really that painful. You might feel some cramping after words but that's normal

They can tell stuff from examining your cervix, they can tell more once they actually look at the sample they took from it.

I'm sure you are fine, there's nothing to worry about. Just be honest with him.her

if you are worried about whether or not they will know you are having sex, the answer is it's possible, but they aren't going to tell your parents... but if you come back with an abnormal pap smear they will test you further and reveal if you have any std's in which you will recieve treatment for and your parents may wonder what they are treating you for...

but I probably wouldn't worry much.

Yes, a doctor can tell with the pap smear if you are going to have problems with cervical cancer. The pap smear is designed to screen for cervical cancer, and when caught early it is easily treatable.

Doing the test itself should not hurt but if it does let the doctor know. She will take a special brush and put it in your cervix (the bottom part of an organ called the uterus) to get some of the cells. You may notice a bit of bleeding for a day or two after the exam and this is normal because of the irritation from the brush.

I would recommend calling the office back and tell the doctor's assistant that you really need to talk to the doctor about having a pap smear done because you are scared and have some questions.

I have a couple of sites that might be able to help you even further. The first is at: http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health and http://www.girlshealth.gov

If you have other questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.
