Inflammed pap smear?

My dr called me two weeks after my annual pap smear and told me not to worry but that my pap smear had come back slightly inflammed. I've been driving myself crazy doing research, and have convinced myself I have everything! I'm convinced i felt bumps, etc less than a week after my gyno exam. She told me to just take vitamins and come back in 6 months. Could it be HPV?? or would that have warranted a more speedy re-test, etc? Help!

I had an abnormal pap anout a year ago, and the doctor called me in right away to do another test. I was convinced that i had the worste possible ailment, cancer. but i would ask your doctor why she isn't taking another exam right away. It hurts a little but go and d oit, you will feel much better mental afterwards.

look up cervicitis

listen to your doc and don't worry. most women have at least one abnormal pap. be sure not to have sex at least 48 hrs before the test. always use a condom.

Many females get results of an abnormal pap. It could mean nothing. Sometimes our bodies just act a little crazy and that causes an abnormality.
Most likely, if it was something of a concern, your Dr. would have asked you back in for either another exam, or a colposcopy.
Don't worry until your 6 month check up!!!

Relax. Bodies are very good at fixing what's wrong with it, which is why they wait six months before doing anything further: slightly abnormal pap smears usually clear by then.

Sounds like a urainary track infection., find over counter meds. like Azo

First, relax! Take a deep breath. I would call up your doctor and ask them for a better explanation of your results. I tell my patients always to make sure that they understand what I'm talking about. You must do yourself a favor and return to the office to get a better explanation. With that said, inflammation means literally nothing with regards to a Pap smear. HPV is HPV period. No "re-test" is necessary if the first Pap was unremarkable. The doctor probably just wants to be certain that your Pap is unremarkable by returning in 6 months. If there was something more serious, you would be sent for a colposcopy or a repeat Pap in 3 months. Take care.

If it were HPV, you would have been notified. Pap smears check for, among other things, pre-cancerous cells and can also show "inflammation" which is sort of pre-pre-cancerous. Generally, they perform a GC/Chlam (gonorrhea/chlamydia) also, and an MD may also order a full STD screen if it is they feel it is appropriate. The STD screen is a blood test. Sounds like you may have some slight inflammation that is being watched over time, and probably will be for years. Peace
