Abnormal Pap smear, negative HPV test?

My recent Pap smear showed abnormalities diagnosed as low-grade SIL. Consequently, the doctor ordered an HPV test which came back as negative. I had a colposcopy today and the doctor said it looked pretty normal but did a biopsy to be sure.

I don't know which test to believe. I know the Pap smear can be inaccurate but it is rare to have a false positive. So if I have low-grade SIL, I read it was almost definitely caused by HPV. I know the HPV test only tests for high-risk types but I read low-risk types don't usually cause significant cervical cell changes. What exactly is wrong with me then? I just wanted to know if anyone had been in this situation before and what the outcome was.

Actually, if you have a biopsy done, the results will tell you if the lesion was caused by HPV, regardless of what type of strain it is.

Paps can be wrong. I've heard of plenty of women who had abnormal paps, had a colposcopy, and nothing was wrong. So there is a chance that the abnormal pap was a fluke result.

Unfortunately, you will need to wait for the biopsy results to come back to know what's going on. This shouldn't take more than a few weeks.

Well, even though you had an abnormal pap, it could be a factor on other stresses in your body. If I were you, I'd get checked up every 6 months to see if that biopsy is still true.

(NaturalNews) Archived documents discovered at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website reveal the agency knew in 2003 that HPV infections did not cause cervical cancer. Despite that knowledge, the FDA has continued to support the use of the Gardasil vaccine in compulsory vaccinations programs like the one announced in Texas earlier this year.

The FDA's own press release from 2003 admits that, "Most women who become infected with HPV are able to eradicate the virus [without intervention] and suffer no apparent long-term consequences to their health... most infections are short-lived and not associated with cervical cancer."
