Anyone gone for a pap smear? |
I'm going today for my second pap smear. I had my first Pap smear about 3 months ago. The tests came back saying that the cells were inflamed. The doctor didn't seem to worried and just asked me to come back in in three months, which is today. I am on the pill, and last time it was a few days after my period stopped, so maybe thats why. she did say taht it all looked normal down there, so maybe that's why she wasnt too worried. I really hope its nothing serious, but all of the women on my mothers side of the family have had cervical cancer, so it is a bit of a worry for me. I'm only 19 and know i would like to have kids one day, so i hope it isnt anything bad. I just got the HPV virus vaccine a month ago, so i go back to get teh second shot this month. But i know the shot wont help any if the virus is already there. That's why you get pap smears, so you know what's going on with your uterine cells. Abnormal paps are not uncommon, just follow your doctor's recommendations for re-checking and/or treatment. You may just have some kind of minor infection, but if it's more serious than that, you want to catch it early so it can be treated. We are so lucky to be living in an age where women do not have to die unnecessarily of treatable conditions! You will be just fine! Hey remember that guitarist from nirvana named ''Pat Smear'' ? LoL good name huh. Have you been having unprotected sex? You might have HPV i've had an irregular Pap (like you).. Sometimes the pap that came up irregular was done too close to your period or something you have done. My second one came back normal, but I know some girls who had another irregular and had to get a biopsy done on their cervix, and then minor surgery. Good Luck Are you taking an contraceptive pills or anything. Lots of times women who are on the pill will have false positive tests come back. The doctor usually doesn't become too concerned because during the pelvic exam they can see if things appear normal. I think if things appear normal but the test comes back funny they just assume it's a false positive, and everything looks abnormal and the test comes back abnormal, then they take it more seriously. You could possibly of had an infection and they wanted to give the infection time to clear up so they will do a second one to get a better picture of the cells. I had that happen when I was pregnant. They said my cells were abnormal and I would need a re test. Boy was I scared, but everything turned out normal. I'm sorry I can't remember why the DR. said this could happen, but everything should be fine. Hey, at least you were smart enough to get this test done. I have had about 3 papsmears in the last 5 months because I've been having some unexplained bleeding and discharge and even though 2 out of those 3 of my smear results came back normal and the other one came back saying inconclusive, the doctor just wanted to re-do the papsmear to make sure there wasn't some infection or anything. Inflammation is just an abnormality that needs to be watched. By having this followup, you will be helping your doctor watch to make sure there is nothing more serious going on. Inflammation is caused by many things, talk to your doctor to find out all the information you need that applies to your situation. Good for you for doing the additional testing. Often patients would rather remain in the dark than face whatever problems there are to deal with. The cells they are referring to are probably your cervical cells, not to scare you but I know one of the reasons that they can be inflamed is from an STD such as HPV or a gonorrheal infection, then again it can come from something simple as a bacterial infection or yeast infection. Then it could be something more serious such as the pre stages of cervical cancer. I have been through this and find out that i had cervical cancer, but it was treated and now I have no problems at all. But if your Doctor was not too worried then I really would just be patient and not worry either. They are required to tell you then if it was something that could possibly be serious. I hope everything turns out ok. Best of luck I would not worry, abnormal paps happen all the time. Your doctor would tell you if it were something serious, such as a cyst, or anything else that might need to be treated. If the doctor told you to come back in 3 months then he/she was I had an abnormal pap smear and had to have a biopsy. Which wasn't bad at all. I have not heard of the cells being inflamed. Just listen to your doctor ask all the questions you have. It's probably nothing, good luck. |
