Normal pap smear 6 months after abnormal pap... Is everything gone?

6 months ago I had an abnormal pap and had to have a colposcopy and found out that I had Mild Cervical Dysplasia. I recently had another pap smear and it came back normal. Does this mean that the Cervical Dysplasia and HPV is gone?

Mild cervical dyspasia is very common and your immune system certainly CAN clear it and the HPV infection that caused it. Your doctor may want you to have another 6 month Pap just to make sure you're staying clear before resuming an annual or biannual schedule. You can have another bout with it later down the road if you're reinfected with HPV.

sometimes cervical displaysia can clear up all on it's own, but once you have contracted HPV, you will HPV for the rest of your life.

last year in april i was seen at LRMC here in germany, and was diagnosed with high grade cervical displaysia along with HPV. i eventually had to have 6 copolsopy's and a few biopsies along with a leep *because of the high grade leasions* for the possibility of cervical cancer from the HPV. turns out-i don't and have never had it.

it is now june 2007 -- i was told on wednesday that i no longer have cervical displaysia. but what's worse is that i was also told the leep procedure last jul. was uneccessary because i was misdiagnosed with HPV.

i now understand why military doctors have bad reputations.

It is my understanding that you aren't totaly out of the clear until you have had 3 normal paps at 6month intervals. I have had 2 copos and 1 leep in the past 5 years and have had a couple normal paps in between. I also found out recently that my Leep at this time would not have been done either, so it's not just military doctors. Fortunately they are making great steps to understand all of this better. The best thing to do is to talk to your gyno. Don't be embarassed because they have seen and heard it all.
