PAP Smear. GF doesnt want sex before or after. Normal?

All. My GF is due for a PAP smear test next week. She says doctors advise her not to have sex for a week before and after. Is this correct. I know it freaks her out but would prefer if she was honest with me about not her reasons for not wanting to have sex. Is it normal for a woman not to want sex before and after smear test?

I usually don't have sex for about 3-4 days before my appt. After, there isn't a waiting period, but she could be nervous.

I have never been told that... I think she may have made that up. Honestly, it has never really effected me.

Usually it's a day or two before the pap that you shouldn't have sex. I'm not sure about afterwards. Maybe your gf is just nervous.

Does she often create excuses for not wanting to have sex? It makes sense not to want to have sex just before a PAP smear and it can be traumatic and sometimes painful, so it makes sense not to want to have sex afterwards as well. But if you are worried that she is making this reason up, then it sounds to me like you have problems with her not wanting to have sex at times other then her once yearly physical. If so, maybe you two should try and have an open and honest talk about your sex life and how she feels and how you feel. I think its really great that you want her to be honest, but that might not be easy for her, you know? I hope you guys work everything out, you sound like a caring partner.

i have never heard this!! I also don't like to before any kind of appt. where the dr is gonna be down there... but I only tell my man no for the first 24 hrs before the appt. after wards I see no reason not to enjoy sex.. unless there shes in pain ....but if its just a normal pap then she should be fine... seems to me that shes avoiding sex and there may be a bigger prob.

Yes, it is normal for not having sex before a Pap because it can mess up the Pap smear results.

However, after a smear, there is no reason why she shouldn't have sex.

Maybe she has some pain or feels uncomfortable there after the smear. Some women do.
