Is the ozone produced from an ionic air purifier dangerous in any way ?

The smell of ozone is present when the air purifier is on

Ozone is a compound that is regulated in the workplace due to the potential irritation is causes. Since the Ozone molecule is made up of three Oxygen atom and wants to be a stable two atom molecule (O2) it is very reactive. When you breathe Ozone you will get some lung irritation and overtime headaches. The level of irritation depends on the amount of Ozone present and the health of your lungs.

So, yes it is dangerous.

I would like to know the answer to this too. I have ionic air purifiers. I read that using the ozone option on a facial steamer can be hazardous to health (carcinogenic, if I remember correctly) and is banned in other countries.
I wonder how the two compare in this respect. I was wondering the same thing just today. Is it that the ozone produces more free radicals?

Ozone is good up there in the sky but is hazardous if inhaled by any living beings.

Some people will experience mild heache due to the musty smell of ozone. Others complained that it makes them difficult to breathe.

At the same time ozone aggravates asthma and damages the lining of the lungs.

Some ionic air purifier produces ozone below the hazardous level. However those machines are one that combines HEPA filtration and electrostatic ( like Friedrich's air purifiers). I cannot say that it's the same case with other purely ionic air purifiers.

Stay away from ozonizers air purifiers too. They do nothing but mask the odor. No air is cleaned and no particles are trapped. The manufacturers of these machines got away with it by claiming that their machines are not health related products.

In conclusion - stay away from air cleaners that emits ozone. Yes, they are cheaper and less noisy - but think long term. The hospital bills for treating your damaged lung could be astronomical.
Use pure HEPA air purifiers instead.
