Anyone owns the new sharper image "Hybrid GP" air purifier? is it working well? does the "ozone guard" work? I've read and heard so many scary stories about the ozone is toxic. Does the sharper Image's ionic breeze purifier dangerous? any suggestions? Alan: Stay away from all "air cleaners" that emit even the smallest amounts of ozone. Ozone is not a part of clean air, it is a highly toxic gas. Proponents of ozone will tell you it is all natural, well arsenic is also all natural but ya don't eat it on your Cheerios in the morning! If you are thinking about something that will clean the air, pick a machine that doesn't throw toxic gasses back into the air. Look for an allergy filter that is not made of plastic and does not use glues in the filter itself. Also, be sure to pick a unit that is the right size for the amount of air you want to clean. Don't look at square footage that the manufacturer claims the machine can clean, because you live in 3 dimensions not 2! Figure the volume of the room (length x width x height) and then take that number and divide it by the amount of air the filter's motor can move in one minute (the manufacturer will state the air in CFM) and that will tell you how long to get one air exchange. Shoot for at least 8 air exchanges per hour.
