No, the ionization is merely adding an electron to the N2 and O2 molecules. Each of them are pretty much hungry for an extra electron.

Those ions (molecules with an extra electron) tend to serve as centers to precipitate dust and dirt from the air (make it clump together). That makes the dirt, pollen, and dust easier to filter out and even drop to the ground.

So the ionization actually gets the air cleaner for you, just like the air feels after a rain storm.
