What is a ozone generator?
i came home to my apartment yesterday to see a sign on the neighbours door saying do not enter ozone generator in progress. What is this for the smell really bothers me i feel light headed and i feel better when i leave my place. i hope they dont do this to my apartment. I have been out of my apartment for 3 hours or more and i still feel wierd.

Ozone (O3) is a triatomic molecule, consisting of three oxygen atoms. It is an allotrope of oxygen that is much less stable than the diatomic species O2. Ground-level ozone is an air pollutant with harmful effects on the respiratory systems of animals. On the other hand, ozone in the upper atmosphere protects living organisms by preventing damaging ultraviolet light from reaching the Earth's surface. It is present in low concentrations throughout the Earth's atmosphere. It has many industrial and consumer applications as well as being used in ozone therapy.

Ozone, the first allotrope of a chemical element to be described by science, was discovered by Christian Friedrich Sch枚nbein in 1840, who named it after the Greek word for smell (ozein), from the peculiar odour in lightning storms. The odour from a lightning strike is from ions produced during the rapid chemical changes, not the ozone itself.

There is a great deal of evidence to show that high concentrations (ppm) of ozone, created by high concentrations of pollution and daylight UV rays at the earth's surface, can harm lung function and irritate the respiratory system. There has also been shown to be a connection between increased ozone caused by thunderstorms and hospital admissions of asthma sufferers. Air quality guidelines such as those from the World Health Organization are based on detailed studies of what levels can cause measurable health effects.

Ozone machines, with or without ionization, are currently used to sanitize (high ozone output) and deodorize non-inhabited rooms, ductwork, vehicles, boats, woodsheds, and buildings. Ozone Generators are being used for air purification, mold killing, and odor removal in homes, offices, motel rooms, basements, cars, boats, as well as for fire, flood and crime scene clean up restorations.

So, yes, it's the ozone that is making you feel sick. Ask the apartment manager when they will stop, and tell them that it is making you sick.

Well, i know the ozone layer is what surrounds the earth, so it's probably something for the environment.

the ozone generator is not for the environment. it is for getting rid of smells. ozone can irritate the lungs if it is inhaled, but there is no reason why you should feel weird after 3 hours. you should be just fine
