What causes OVERACTIVE BLADDER?


Is it nervousness and nerves?

I need to use this for my Anatomy and Physiology class.

Urinary incontinence is loss of bladder control. Symptoms can range from mild leaking to uncontrollable wetting. It can happen to anyone, but it becomes more common with age.

Most bladder control problems happen when muscles are too weak or too active. If the muscles that keep your bladder closed are weak, you may have accidents when you sneeze, laugh or lift a heavy object. This is stress incontinence. If bladder muscles become too active, you may feel a strong urge to go to the bathroom when you have little urine in your bladder. This is urge incontinence or overactive bladder. There are other causes of incontinence, such as prostate problems and nerve damage.

Treatment depends on the type of problem you have and what best fits your lifestyle. It may include simple exercises, medicines, special devices or procedures prescribed by your doctor. Please read more:

It could be a nerve condition. Not really that you are nervous. It also could be a stimulant such as drugs or caffeine.

An overactive bladder is a condition that results from sudden, involuntary contraction of the muscle in the wall of the urinary bladder. Overactive bladder causes a sudden and unstoppable need to urinate (urinary urgency). Overactive bladder is also referred to as urge incontinence and is a form of urinary incontinence (unintentional loss of urine). These are some treatments - Kegel exercises: Regular, daily exercising of pelvic muscles can improve, and even prevent, urinary incontinence. This is particularly helpful for younger women. Should be performed 30-80 times daily for at least 8 weeks. Biofeedback: Used in conjunction with Kegel exercises, biofeedback helps people gain awareness and control of their pelvic muscles. Vaginal weight training: Small weights are held within the vagina by tightening the vaginal muscles. Should be performed for 15 minutes, twice daily, for 4 to 6 weeks. Pelvic floor electrical stimulation: Mild electrical pulses stimulate muscle contractions. Should be done in conjunction with Kegel exercises. Bladder training teaches people to resist the urge to void and gradually expand the intervals between voiding. Toileting assistance uses routine or scheduled toileting, habit training schedules, and prompted voiding to empty the bladder regularly to prevent leaking. Some medications include - Oxybutynin (brand name: Ditropan) prevents urge incontinence by relaxing sphincter muscles. Tolterodine (brand name: Detrol, Detrol LA) is indicated for the treatment of an overactive bladder with symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency, or urge incontinence. Oestrogen, either oral or vaginal, may be helpful in conjunction with other treatments for postmenopausal women with urinary incontinence. The above are obviously in conjunction with medical advice and supervision.
