Over the counter medicines? |
Do most places (walmart, krogers, etc) have any kind of age thing on who can buy over the counter medicines? like could a 10 year old go in and buy tylenol? (i'm 17, so i assume i can, right?) just wondering. I never have, so i never really thought about it. I probably sound stupid, don't I? U have to be 18. They changed the laws in the last couple years. I know cause I bought my son Tylenol and they asked for my ID. I am 24. So if a girl is your age and has a baby she can't even buy her child tylenol. The laws are getting terrrible. You must be 18 or over i think in some places. Actually, it's not a stupid question. Some of the most easily abused medicines are over the counter. It's been a while since High School for me, (19 yrs) but I remember kids talking about doing "Robos", which was Robitussin Cough syrup. NyQuil was another one that was/is commonly abused. A lot of cold medicines and decongestants are under Federal regulations now. For Example; regular Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) or medications containing pseudoephedrine are now kept behind the pharmacy counter. You have to ask for them and show a picture ID, and you are limited to the amount you can purchase at one time. The reason for this is that pseudoephedrine is a main ingredient in the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine, and by trying to limit the amount a person can buy, they hope to make it harder for meth cookers to get it. Unfortunately, it isn't a perfect system, and there are way to get around it. For the most part, I believe if it is on an open shelf, then there are no age restriction to purchasing it. |
