Are there any over the counter medicines or remedies for herpes?

if herpes is like a cold sore (which i think it is) get some big vitamin E capsules and stick a pin into the gelcap. squeeze the fluid out and spread it on the sores. i occasionally get cold sores and after learning about this treatment, my cold sores go away within 2 days!!! (remember its a virus and there is no cure) but try the vitamin E it really works

There is a medication for herpes simplex 1 sold over the counter for use on fever blisters caused by this virus called Abreva. No other over the counter medication is accepted as of any use for herpes specifically. Of course over the counter pain and itching preparations could help with some symptoms.

There are very effective medications available by prescription. Don't waste money on things that don't work and can make it easier to spread the infection to others when real help is available.

There is no cure for herpes. Once you get it, you're stuck with it. Just because you're not seeing any sores or breakouts doesn't mean it's cured. It just means that you're not breaking out with it at the time. Herpes can be passed to a sex partner even if you're not having a break out, so if you have it, ALWAYS use a condom, even if you don't have any open sores.
