When is allergy season over? Anyone know any good over the counter medicines? My eyes burn and i keep on sneez

It depends what country you are in. I'm in the UK and allergy season is just beginning. If you are suffering pretty badly and have all 3 symptoms then its safe to treat all 3 seperately when needed. A good antihistamine (non drowsy) Claritin, Benadryl or Zirtek. Piriton is ok but can cause drowsiness so best to avoid if you are driving. Beconaise or Flixonaise nasal sprays you can buy over the counter. Most of the anti allergy eyes drops contain the same ingredients usually sodium cromoglicate 2% so you can buy any of them. Hope this is of some help!

. It comes in a yellow and orange box and is a bit more pricey than the generic brands but oh doggie it does the trick real nice.
You will like that one for sure. Doesn't even make you drowsy.

I like the Walgreens store brand like clariten.

actifed works the best for me. I have found it to be better than make of the expensive stuff.

If you keep your eyes from dust,trees,flowers and spices.
You wont sneez

Claritin, Alavert (Claritin and Alavert are the same medication), Benadryl, Chlor-Trimeton are some OTC antihistamine meds. You can always just get the drug store version of the med instead of the brand name ones. Its cheaper and its the same. You can also get the -D version of them - they contain pseudophedrine which is Sudafed, a decongestant.

Before choosing to take any medications though, realize that all medications have side effects.
All antihistamines cause drowsiness to one extent or another.
The pseudophedrine component of the -D version of the medications can cause elevated blood pressure.
If you are pregnant, then these medications are generally not safe, except possibly Benadryl without the decongestant.
People with asthma may have trouble with some of these medications as well, although it seems that the allergies are probably triggering more attacks than the medications.
Also, people who are taking other medications including heart medications and certain antibiotics or antifungal medications should check for drug interactions.

For the eyes, the antihistamines should start helping. Otherwise Visine would help. The AC form is pretty good.

In any case, consult with your physician before taking any of these medications or do so at your own risk. Again these medications listed above are just OTC drugs, not prescription ones.

eyedrops with antihistimin in them I think one is called ocuhist.

I dont know when the season ends, but I hope that it is soon, because my allergies are so bad that my doctor just put me on allergy shots.

Sudefed is good. Try some allergy eye drops for your itchy eyes.

i have used benedryl for yrs. it works really good.i used to use visine allergy eye, but finally went to the dr. and got patenal.it works better,but is prescription. you can get robitussan ac, over the counter, you have to sign for it because it has codine, but it stops the cough til you gage thing.good luck, i have them also.

Allergy season is never over..
Try Telfast 180mg 24 hr relief if your eyes are still bad try some eye drops your local chemist will advise you.
If after all this you still sneeze then please stay away from dairy products and go to your gp..let me know how you go...

Over the counter there are several good options. Claritin - or its generic loratidine - is non drowsy, as is Clarinex.

Also you could use antihistamine eye drops such as Visine-A, Opcon-A, and there are others. Ask your pharmacist to show you the antihistamine eye drops and you can pick from any of them (and they won't make you tired).

Perhaps a combination of both would work best for your situation. If that doesn't work there are stronger non drowsy antihistamines both in oral and eye drop forms that your doctor can prescribe.

Also - for your eye symptoms you can use a cold washcloth, not warm. Cool compresses decrease swelling and itching. Warm compresses increase the blood flow to an area and that can make redness and swelling worse.

As for the "season" - it depends what you are allergic to. but spring is the peak time for most people with tree and grass pollen allergies.

I use Reactine extra strength

Whatever you pick, give it a few days before expecting total relief...you sound pretty bad off.
Use a decongestant for the stuffiness in your head.
Use an antihistimine for the sneezing etc.
If you want to get eyedrops, make sure you read the label carefully, you may not be able to use certain eyedrops while you are also taking an oral antihistimine.

Tips: 1) Diphenhydramine HCL and chlortrimiton (little yellow pill) are the worst for making you drowsy. When the label says, "do not drive or operate heavy machinery" take that seriously until you know what the effects will be on you. 2) Buy generic and save money.

Best thing for you to do, is to take the medications over to the pharmicist and discuss with him/her before you actually purchase them. They are usually very helpful.

VERY IMPORTANT: May sound silly, but you really should shower before going to bed. Even better, do it as soon as you are in for the night. Particles of whatever you are allergic to are very likely in your hair and on your skin. So don't take it to bed with you! And keep your bedroom windows shut too.

also, for the eyes: take shower at night to get rid of pollen. the last thing you want to do is sleep on the pollen and have it get all over your face. Flonase helps your nose, though that is perscription. You should probably talk to your doctor about medications. Perscriptions are the best thing-they work the best.
