Are there any "calming" medicines available over the counter? |
By calming, I mean something that will calm my nerves. Like, maybe a mild OTC version of Valium or Qualudes or something like that. The only available OTC sedative like medications are antihistamines. You want ones that are more on the sedating side such as diphenhydramine (Benedryl) as opposed to Claritin. I suggest a 50mg dose. HOWEVER, there is the potential for a paradoxical effect causing you to feel more anxious/revved up but luckily this is uncommon. Also, No driving after taking benedryl until you know its effects on you. Benedryl is the key ingredient in most OTC sleep medicines. kalms A 24 ounce can of Miller Lite is relaxing Not that I would suggest....however, some people get results with St. John's Wort, or even black cohosh(which is great for women suffering from pms or menopause)Check out a natural pharmacy, they could make suggestions. Why not try the selec tion of teas? Just go to the tea and coffee aisle in your supermarket, there are many to choose from. One of the best is chamomile tea - this is wonderful to soothe your nerves and has a nice, warming, calming affect on the entire body. Also, Tension Tamer is good - very relaxing. And teas are much better than any drug. Myself, I drink chamomile tea and it works for me!! I heard St. John's Wort can help a bit Saint John's Wort. Try half of a sleeping pill. Tea. Nothing but a dark room and quiet. |
