Best over the counter medicine for really bad head/chest cold?

Hey everyone, i have a really bad head/chest cold. I was sneezing for a day or two, and thought it was just allergies but apparently not! It seems to have moved down to my chest? I have a runny/SLIGHTLY stuffy nose, but i can breath fine. My voice is what sounds horrendus... My throat is a little sore, but I had my tonsils out almost a year ago, so it doesnt hurt too much.

I DO have a really bad headache, and feel very tired. Obviously, its Sunday, so i cant go to a doctor and I need to be well enough to get to work and class tomorrow -_-

Whats the best over the counter medicine?? Theres soo many, and I have no idea what works best. (Sudafed? Sudafed PE? NyQuil? DayQuil??)

I also have mild asthma.

aside from any home remedies or o.t.c., or any allergies to medications you might have, i would probably try taking some Theraflu, the microwave liquid-type, and drink plenty of water. Get some rest, not too much because it will leave your body tired.
Also, remember not to take anything that will irritate your asthma.

My brother is asthmatic and when he gets a cold like yours he uses Sudafed complete.

nyquil tonight and dayquil during the day

I have very similar problems (except I have a medium asthma condition, not mild). In the condition like yours I usually take 3 pills of Ibuprofen at one time 200mg each. I can do it 2 times per day for 3 days. This will help for both headache and cold.
If this does then I know I need to start taking antibiotics....

Sudafed can cause more headaches if i use it regularly. It makes me agitated.

MUCINEX!!! This is a wonder drug. Mucinex thins mucous (very gross). It does a wonderful job of preventing head and chest colds from turning into bad sinus infections or lung infections (which you don't want since you have mild asthma). You don't' want your chest getting tight from your lungs getting congested with thick mucous.

Try taking Excedrin Sinus for your headache. It should take care of the pain and also offers a mild decongestant.

If your allergies are bothering you take an allergy medication like Benadryl. If Bendryl makes you too sleepy to go to work or school, try Claritin or Alavert (same drug, just different brand names).
