What is the best OVER the counter medicine for pain??

My boyfriend has a very bad sore throat, headache and pain in his ears. What would be the best over the counter medicine to get? What's the strongest? Please help!

Can you get tylonol 3 over the counter?

If he is having sore throat, headache and ear ache he needs a antihistamine/decongestant. He should take something like claritin-d over the counter. He can also take the Tylenol and Advil for the pain. If his throat is very sore he could use something like chloraseptic spray. Be sure to look in his throat and make sure he doesn't have white spots or blisters as this could be a sign of strep throat and he would need to see a doctor to get an antibiotic. Hope he feels better soon.

perhaps tylenol -3

EDIT:Yes you can get it over the counter, read the E-mail response.

I have found the 500mgf ibuprofin works best for me.I take all four in the morning and the chronic pain I have is gone until the next morning.

alleve works for me.....

Each Person reacts slightly different to diff drugs.

However I always use Alieve (generic would be Ibuprofen) for pain and headaches.

If its a really bad headache, Exedrin Migrane works wonders for the bad ones...

Tylenol 1's which are actually behind the counter (BTC vs OTC) - you don't need a prescription but just ask the pharmacy people for it. It's tylenol with codeine and caffeine - drink lots of water 'cause it's constipating......
Perhaps he should go to emerg and have it checked out in the meantime - sounds like a bacterial infection - possibly strep. Good luck

1000mg tylenol every six hours (max 4000 in 24 hours) along with 800 mg ibuprofen every six hours (max 2400 in 24 hours) I just got this advice from my specialist and it works for me- They can be taken together or staggered just make sure you don't take more than the max dose cause it's hard on your liver. Please don't mask pain if you don't know what is causing it...find out first
