What is the best over-the counter medicine for a cough that just won't go away? |
I've tried several cough suppresent drops in addition to regular cold medicine but I'm still suffering from a dry, itchy throat and intermittent coughing throughout the day for the past half week. Should I see a physician or is there something I can get over the counter? If you have already tried products with the active ingredient dextromethorphan with no sucess contact a physician. Delsym is a wonderful over the counter product for frequent dry coughs. Prescription strength cough suppressants will be more effective. the cough is from your allergies and from post nasal drip. try using saline in to cleanse your nasal passages. you can also purchase products that target post nasal drip you can ask your MD about a product called Astelin, it works great for it. I have found the cough syrup Tylenol Cough and Sore Throat to be very helpful for me. And I HATE syrups!!! But this one has that ice stuff like Ice Breakers, that makes the taste more bearable. The aftertaste is also bearable. IMO it's like the toothpaste taste you get after you brush your teeth. Sounds weird I know but this is the only syrup I will willing take. Cough is caused by a number of ailments. |
