Can someone please recommend an over the counter medicine?

I want to save myself medical fees and would like to try an over the counter drug for this common illness; which I believe is just flu.

-dry cough (but I feel there is phlegm waiting to come out from my chest soon)
-itchy throat
-my voice sounds rough/coarse?
-there is a slight pain in swallowing but tolerable. i'm not even bothered when i eat.
-tired most of the time or easily gets tired
-reduced energy. i don't feel the same energy like the usual days.
-i feel slight fever sometimes. but so faint. could even be just paranoia.

thanks.

If this is just a virus, the best and cheapest - although not the most popular is :-

Paracetamol will help the fever and any aches and pains.

Steam (just breath in steam from boiling water in a bowl with a towel over your head) will help the hoarse voice, dry and itchy throat - it will also help to loosen any phlegm.

Otherwise just rest and let nature take it 's course.

Your own body should be able to combat a virus, anything else is a waste of your time and money!

Obviously if you are getting worse and are worried you should see a doctor

mucinex
sudafed
benadryl

Pick from those. Try reading the boxes, they tell you what each drug is specifically for.

It sounds to me like strep throat and mononucleosis. I would try something containing dextromethorphan, or chloramphenimine maleate, like Vicks 44 Original. If this doesn't get better, that means that I could be right and you should see a doctor.

Try DayQuil or NyQuil for these flu like symptoms. For the dry cough, chew ginger mixed with salt. It helped my husband tremendously.

yeah. the mucinex is my pick. also try using a vaporisor in your room. im getting over that very thing. also try a liquid vitamin supplament with lots of c and b vitamins. drink plenty of water and rest as much as possible.
