Over the counter cold medicine, safe to take if I have asthma/breathing troubles?

My doctor told me it should be okay for me to take over the counter cold medicine, but I was wondering, since the labeling on most if not all cold medicines advise to seek a doctor's advice before taking if I have asthma: has anyone had problems taking cold medicine with asthma or breathing problems?

I am 31 years old and I've had asthma since I was about 5 years old. I've taken all kinds of OTC meds and I've never had a problem.

I've taken benedryl, nyquil, tylenol, advil, ect.

I've never had any problems. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.

Most of the time OTC meds are OK to use. However, cough expectorants can trigger asthma attacks. Only use expectorants when you have a sinus infection and when your doctor tells you to. If you need something to move thick secretions use MUCINEX and not a liquid form. Once the secretion start to losens the coughing can increase and your airways can increase more secretions. This could cause a very severe asthma attack.

Be careful when using expectorants.
