Are ovarian cysts very dangerous if they rupture? |
My girlfriend has ovarian cysts, and is at the dr. right now getting an ultrasound. The dr said she wants her to go to the hospital overnight for bloodwork. My girlfriend thinks this is ridiculous, her pain is going away, and she sees no need to waste the time nor the money when it is no longer causing her pain. She has been on birth control for a month now in an effort to shrink her cysts. All of a sudden today she had severe pain and nausea, called the dr, and they asked her to come in right away. I am not sure what kind of cysts these are, but the first order of treatment from the dr was to put her on birth control pills. Has anyone else been in this situation? should she go to the hospital overnight so they can do a series of blood tests? She thinks the dr. is overreacting by making her do that. She is not a hospital friendly person, and I dont know if I should force her to go or let her choose not to. I dont know if this is very dangerous or not. It's good to hear she's at her doctor's getting an ultrasound. She should "bite the bullet" and get the tests done and over with. The doctor needs the information from these tests to determine the best treatment plan for her. (I understand her dislike. I don't care for hospitals either.) My daughter has ovarian cysts and after years of working with her doctor has found an adequate treatment plan. Thank you and she is in my prayers. Catching it early and getting prompt treatment is key to getting back to good health. I pray the surgery goes easily and she is back up and smiling and active in no time. May you both enjoy long life, health, and prosperity. Report It From reading the other comments, you have a some good people pulling for you both. Report It Rupturing ovarian cysts can cause hemorrhaging! She needs to be in the hospital, especially if her doctor says she should be. On top of that, she could destroy her ovaries by not letting the doctors treat her. I had a friend who had to have a couple surgically removed because if they ruptured, the bleeding could kill her eggs, or worse her. Cysts are very common. After being diagnosed with them, it seems like every girlfriend of mine I told about it had been diagnosed as well. It greatly depends on the size of the cyst. Those little bastards hurt when they rupture, but she should be just fine. You are a good boyfriend for being concerned! They can rupture. Mine come and go. If she is in enough pain, she will beg you to call an ambulance. But, if the dr feels the need to remove them, she should. Again, if it hurts bad enough, you will know. I've had them come and go for a year now. Do whatever the Dr says. Well I had a recurring problem with ovarian cysts for a while and this is actually a typical thing. I also had to get ultrasounds guess the seriousness depends on if the cyst is filled with fluid or if it has tissue in it. I know it sounds gross but but there are different kinds. Mine just went away on their own and lots of women get them. I would definitely suggest for her to follow the Dr.s orders about going to the hospital and follow through with the ultrasound. In October 1998 all my cytst ruptured and I thought I was miscarrying. In the out come I was fine. But to each their own.Best of luck.I got pg in Dec of 1998 and Have not had problems with cyst for 7 years now~!!~!! I hate doctors to I get so scared. My husband doesnt give me the choice of going or not because he loves me and values my life. He makes me go and goes with me for support and in the end I have thanked him. I actually almost died because I didnt want to go in. My husband made the apt for me cause i wouldnt call and I went thanks to my mother also and my doctor was shocked at the fact that I hadnt come in earlier and had me admitted right away. If you love her you would take her. Live is precious. Dont loose her over being afraid. I always tell myself even if it isnt anything, you are better safe than sorry. even if it cost money medical bills dont effect your credit. becuase everyone has millions of dollars in medical debt. |
