Any info on Otitis Media please.? |
I have had problems with my eardrum. I suffered for years with perfarated ear drum, a few months ago, I was assaulted and within two months, I have had this liquid running from my left ear. I have been to the doctor, got antibiotics and pain killers. I have had four different kinds and to date nothing helped. Thinking logical, I thought if I drank meds that would clear up the mucus it may help. I started taking sinutabs, the infection has slowed down but my ear remains itchy. Any advice please. I have been to doctors and they told me it should clear. Now I have done some reading could this be "Otitis Media" thanks in andvance.. It sounds as if you have 'serous otitis media'. The fluid that is now draining is probably no longer infected with bacteria, but an accumulation of fluid may persist for a long time after a bout of infective otitis. This could be due to a thickening of the long-standing fluid, making it difficult to drain down the Eustachian tube, or some remaining generalized inflammation in the Eustachian (swelling it almost closed). I had this once, and it lasted for several months. I couldn't stand the feeling, but the doctor assured me that it would eventually dry out, even if it took some time. To help it along Otitis Media is an infection of the "middle ear" which is on the inner side of your ear drum. If your infection was cleared up from the antibiotics, but remains "itchy" it sounds like a fungal infection. This often happens after antibiotic treatment, since antibiotics kill the "good bacteria" in your ear which guards against fungus growth, along with the "bad bacteria" that caused the infection. Fungus grows in wet warm environments (like between the toes-athletes foot, on women's genitals, especially after antibiotic treatment- yeast infections, and the diaper area - diaper rash.) I suggest you see an "ears-nose-throat" specialist since they have the means of correctly diagnosing and treating your problem. Good luck. otitis media is more common in children and usually doesn't last longer than a cold. You could have chronic om, which lasts for a long time or is recurring. there is over the counter that cleans out your ear which may help w/the itchiness. it could also be allergies. let your doctor know that it's not going you away or if he doesn't offer any additional help, maybe get another opinion. I know how much it sucks, i used to get ear infections all the time, and antibiotics didn't do too much for me. I think i eventually grew out of it, but i still have allergies and that sometimes bothers my ears. Otitis Media is the proper name for an ear infection. It sounds like you have a good case of infection. Antibiotics and decongestants should help. If the ear drum is torn (perforated) severly surgery may need to be done to repair the drum, otherwise it will take some time but should resolve. |
