Adult with Otitis Media---how long until it clears up?

My husband has otitis media, which is basically a middle ear infection. He realized he had it Monday morning, and its Thursday and he says he still can't hear in his left ear, and that it is not draining. He went to the doctor today and recieved an antibiotic shot along with a second round of painkillers and antibiotics....
How long does it usually take for something like this to clear up?

it took me over two months last spring and two rounds of strong antibiotics.

i had it a few years ago, and it lasted like a month..
