Ear infections (tubes)?

Just one simple question... is otitis media hereditary??? And one comment....I raised my children all while smoking in the house around the baby... i was raised the same way.... all this some 35 years ago and none of my brorthers or sisters, nieces or nephews, nor my own children every suffered from ear infections, diabetis, heart problems or any of the others problems all listed today with second hand smoke. Thank You!

That is a bunch of bull.
Ear infections has alot to do with teething.
Fuzzy stuff and carpets would effect ears worser than smoking.
Also the air--lack of moisture in the air.

my son has had sooo many ear infections.. now that he is home with me .. out of daycare, he's been much less sick.. no ear infections at all.. i just saw up there u ask of tubes.. i have taken my son to an excellent ear/throat specialist.. and he said tubes can cause alot more problems, such as bleeding, more risk of infection and tryin to keep tubes clear of fluids.. if anything.. go to pediatrician ask for referral to ear/throat specialist and ask them about removing tonsils.. possibly adnoids.. not sure about the otitis.. sorry

Yes it can be if you have a problem with bent Eustachian tubes that` run in your family

you need to count your blessing your family was blessed !! now about ear infections and tubes my son started getting ear infections from being in the hospital at 4months the tubes from the hospital gave him ear infections he had to have tubes put in twice !! some time it just happend in children i aslo had a son who would get them from no reason at all or from a very bad cold and from asthma!!most kids get them in the winter time !! i think this is something you need to ask your ear nose and throt dr or go on line and ask this same question and see what answer you get back also remember 35 years ago the population was small and i dont think we had as many smokers back then we have a much bigger population now and baby dawn near smoke smoking is much bigger now then ever the air is so damage from smoker and other smoke in the air i notice you did not add asthma to your list and i dont know what your children ages are now but i never had a problem with asthma until i got older and had a baby and second hand smoke did play a role with me having asthma when i work in a bar some years ago i always was around second hand smoke and i had more attacks then i do right now my home and job is smoke free i even feel much more healthy and asthma free!! god bless!!blossom!!!
