What caues chronic ear infections in adults?

I have had severe infections since I was 16 ( I am now 30 ) and no antibiotic regimine seems to help. I have tried researching the issue but most of the info on otitis media and other ear problems dicuss how infants and young children are affected. It may say, adults can get this problem too. I was just looking for some insight on the issues.

Some medications can cause them. Allergies can cause them. They can be a side issue from common colds and flus. You can even be getting fluid in the ear from showers or from swimming, and the ear doesn't drain the water properly. Someone else on here said his wife had to get a tube put in to drain the ear, and that may be what you ultimately need to do. Be careful, I got an ear infection when I was 22 and I lost 40% of my hearing in that ear from it. Nowadays, I use ear plugs when swimming if I know I'm putting my head below water. Antibiotics don't ultimately help the ear drain, they just clear up infections, so an anitbiotic regimen seems like it wouldn't work.

A lot of times, if you are exposed to a virus, a cold or something, it will go to and effect the weaker spot in your body. For you, and me, it is the ear. You just have to log when you get them and see if you can see if there is something that is causing them, winds, cold etc.
Hope this helps.

Have you ever consulted a Doctor ? My wife had to have a tube put in one ear to keep it drained.
