Can medications be giving through ostomy if a patient can't take it by mouth?

Medications are not given through an ostomy. However, they can be given through a J-tube or NG tube.

Most Ostomies are there for the purpose of removing feces while bypassing the anus.

i do not believe so. As far as I know, medications can only be given directly through the blood stream if not taken orally or rectally. My mother has an ostomy, and I do not recall her ever having meds taken through the ostomy.

yes, we can. But not all the otomy, only through Gastrostomy tube (made opening to the stomach) and jejunostomy tube ( opening to the jejunum. Because these parts have good absorption. Other ileostomy and colonostomy are use only for the draining purpose.

No, most ostomies are very low in the GI tract. This would not give the drug sufficient opportunity for absorption.

Also, drugs vary a lot about what pH they need for absorption, the lower GI tract is more basic, while upper GI tract ranges from acidic to neutral. Drugs which need a lower pH would not be well absorbed.

The peristalsis in the part of the bowel that makes the stoma pushes faeces outwards. Any meds inserted via the stoma would automatically be pushed out too, it just wouldn't work.
