Osteoporosis and herniations in the C 4-5 and C 6-7 level?

I am going to need surgery for two disc herniations that I have and my Dr. is performing nerve root blocks for now, but told me I will need to have operation. I have osteoporosis in my neck, lower back and hip joints. I'm scared because I don't know how they will be able to leave a screw and plate in the cervical area if the bones are brittle? I am only 39 and feel too young to have to go through this....does anyone know how this would be handled? Thank you for your help....

Even if the bones are brittle, they can withstand the surgery. Keep in mind that our elders are getting hip and knee replacements everyday. Brittle bones are only very sensitive to trauma such as falls. As for surgery in your neck, the plates are not that big. I've seen 20 year olds having neck surgery done and they do ok. Good luck and try not to worry much....your doctors know best.
