In Osteoporosis, How to avoid breaking bones?

My father, 67 years old, is having osteoporosis. He had a left hip joint replacement last year, due to a femur head fracture. Yesterday his right femur head broke. He has been already been diagnosed with Osteoporosis. He is also having COPD. Can someone please let me know what medicines to be taken in order to avoid any further progress of the disease and to ensure that he does not get any further broken bones. As he told us, he cannot make out how he falls down. Both the time, he fell on flat ground on the side, with nothing like water to slip on or any other factor that can make someone fall. I am extremely distressed to see this. Can some doctor or others with similar experience please help and advise me? My dad stays in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. If someone can advise on some local center that specializes in such cases, then also it would be of much help.

I also have osteoporosis and COPD. They are not related diseases except smoking can make bones brittle? The person above me told you the correct medications. There is also a medication your father can take strictly for the osteoporosis.

I have had compound fractures in my back and other parts of my body. My doctors told me you do not have to fall to get a fracture if you have this disease. Along with the COPD my body is hurting too.

Ask about the pill for osteo. as soon as possible. It is only taken one day a week.

Good Luck to your father and peace be with him. It is a very difficult road to travel.

Calcium Citrate with Magnesium and Vitamin D and there may be other natural ways . Boron is in Apples ..helps bones.

It may depend on how far advanced it is.

I would be Very careful about taking popular Bone Medicines you see advertized. Some cause Jaw Bone Death and other serious side effects that will make him worse than he is. (Gastro type side effects too). Best wishes for him.

I don't have any medicines to recommend, as I'm not a medical physician. However in our office, we use a bone building supplement called Bonestrong. We have had very good results with this formulation specifically designed to help increase bone density. You can get some information on my blog:
