Cola/Osteoporosis Risk - Reversible? |
Recent studies have suggested that as little as 4 cans of cola a week can increase the risk of women developing osteoporosis. I've drunk over 4 cans a DAY for years. I'm giving it up now but does anyone know if the damage is permanent or reversible? Also, what can I do to help mitigate the increased risk that my cola intake over the years may have caused me? You should talk to your doctor. They will determine your risk factors based on your family history of osteoporosis. Like my mother and my grandmother both had it so now that I am over 40, I get a bone scan every 3 years. I drank a lot of coke too, but not anymore (more for the weight) but I take a really good calcium tablet every day. I was told that once you are diagnosed with osteoporosis, that you can't reverse it, only keep it from progressing as fast. you should really be asking your doctor but calcium tablets are very good for it I'm not sure on this. I would imagine it is reveresible - presumably the Cola stops your body absorbing the calcium it needs or something like that - not sure how else it could affect your risk of osteoporosis. thats a good question, but i dont think you should look for the answer on yahoo, ask yourself that question good luck! |
