Has anyone took fosamax for osteoporosis, and does it cause weight gain?

I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, and degenerative low back disease and hernisted disk and i am supposed to see a orthapedic surgion i do not know if he will do surgeryy on me or what , can anyone give me suggestions i feel i have been put throught the wringer for 6 months thanks alot

I would suggest to not get on fosomax!!! This medicine just keeps your bones from sloughing off old material. Over time, this makes your bones brittle. There are some class action lawsuits against the company for bone, jaw, and teeth problems from the drug (see links).

I have actually heard of a new possiblity lately- a brand new supplement that actually INCREASES bone density. Contact me and I'll tell you about it.

my husband took Fosamax for a couple of years. It didn't cause him any weight gain, but at the same time I was dx'd with type 2 diabetes and changed our table entirely! He has to eat very low carb at home. (I do all the cooking).

Now he is taking the one that is weekly.

He has scoliosis really bad. Polio caused his back to be like a corkscrew.
