Does ongoing stress lead to osteoporosis?

I am exploring the idea that long term stress and associated raised cortisol levels can lead to early development of osteoporosis. Anyone have a comment on this or know of related medical research?

Actually stress will deplete the body of cortisol and the adrenals will produce it to a normal range to keep up. So "raised" levels are actually normal levels. The stress would be on the pituitary and on the adrenals to manufacture it to those normal levels. Since pituitary damage (specifically with hypopituitarism) will cause osteoporosis over time especially without replacement of lost hormones, it is possible that stress on a normal pituitary over time could cause damage which would lead to osteoporosis. Go to www.goodhormonehealth.com and look at symptoms and you will seen what causes osteoporosis in hypopituitarism. There is a lot of great info on the site and Dr. Friedman is one of the best pituitary specialists in the world.

Not sure of that. Higher stress levels affect both the mental and physical health of a person. Deep breathing is a simple relaxation technique which can be used to effectively lower stress levels at any time. There are many deep breathing relaxation techniques which when followed will make you feel relaxed.More details and remedies at http://deeplyrelax.com
