What are alternative things to take instead of those perscription medications for osteoporosis?

I am going to stop taking Fosamax and Miacalcin for my osteoporosis and want to take something that is safer

No alternative will be nearly as effective. Good luck!

you may be able to take calcium suppliments instead. depends on how bad the osteoporosis is progressing. My grandmother doesn't take anything for it either, she didn't like the meds and how they made her feel, so instead she makes sure she gets enough milk and calcium intake. good luck

Few years ago, a study was conducted to determine what was more effective for osteoporosis... fosamax, calcium, both of them, or just exercise. Guess which one was the most effective? Exercise alone provided far more benefit than drugs with calcium supplements combined.

Bones don't get stronger unless you put some kind of stress to it. Exercise is the best way to do it and far cheaper than drugs. So, start doing some exercise. Whether it's from the bed, wheelchair, or anywhere, anyone can do exercise. Start off with light exercise, like walking, or swimming. Or check your community, some offer excellent programs like line dancing.

I have a great supplement suggestion for you. It is a brand new product called SolarCal-D. This contains high grade coral calcium, the proper amount of magnesium to help your body absorb the calcium, and Vitamin D, which is known to prevent breast cancer in women. Also, exercise will help your bones to build some mass, especially strength training.

in ayurveda you have some preparations, try it.

The part that is the most misunderstood about bone health is that it's not so much the type of Calcium or the amount of Calcium (by that, I mean taking too much is a bad thing) that's important, but it's actually what's taken WITH the Calcium to help it's absorption into the bones that is the most important.

In and of itself, the human body doesn't absorb Calcium very efficiently into the bones, so it needs other things to help that absorption. The main things that help are Magnesium, Vitamins D and K, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, Boron, Strontium, Silica, Ipriflavone, some aspects of Soy (primarily the isoflavones), and some of the general vitamins (A, C, E, and the B vitamins play a small role because they help your body work more efficiently in general).

Fosamax and other similar drugs help the absorption of Calcium in a similar way, but they only take a small aspect of what helps the Calcium absorb into your bones without the other balancing aspects that natural products provide, which is what gives the side effects.

You should alkalize your body to prevent further bone loss by eating lots of vegetables and make sure you are taking a quality calcium/magnesium/vitamin D/boron and other trace minerals supplement.
Take a look at products from Metagenics. Beware of coral calcium because it can contain lead.
