Osteoarthritis or did I tear something in my knee? |
Three days ago, after dancing most of the night, I came home and stood on a chair to get something off a high shelf. I stepped down on my right leg and felt something pop in my left knee. It was very similar to the feeling I had when I tore the cartiladge in that same knee 11 years ago, but in a different spot. That tear on the lower right side of my knee. This injury is across the top central area of my knee. I didn't seem to have any problems the day it happened nor most of the next day. I actually walked around quite a bit. However, it popped getting into and out of the taxi going home that night. Since then it has been stiff. It doesn't like to bend and when it does, it pops. Sometimes it feels like there is pressure across the top of my knee and other times it feels like I have put a heat rub on it when I have not. The doctor, who did not touch my knee, but only x-rayed it said it's osteoarthritis. I have doubts. However, I don't speak Chinese so it's difficult for me to ask him questions. I live in China. Anytime I go to a doctor I feel like Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation." I don't want to risk further injury to my knee if the doctor is wrong and I have torn something. I would think if it was osteoarthritis my knee would have bothered me more in the recent past, but it has not. I recently hiked 24 kilometers over three days through mountains with loose gravel trails without a twinge. I regularly dance for hours every Friday and Saturday night, again with no problems. Hmm. Well my advice is to get a second opinion or see a pediotrist. If it worsens, you really should seek medical attention. Absolutely get a second opinion! A podiatrist can't help you. They only work on feet. |
