What are possible treatments for osteoarthritis of hand joints? |
Iv'e had surgery for my knees, but haven't been able to stop or slow down deformity and pain in my finger joints. I would appreciate others with osteoarthritis replying with suggestions I'm so sorry. I have the same thing. The only thing you can do is try to keep your hands active as much as possible. I can't play tennis, can't play my cello, but I can still play on my computer! Some of the joints (like the thumb) can be replaced but from the research I have done, they seem pretty Medieval compared to what they can do for your knees and hips. Eat anti inflammatory foods like cherries (fresh or juice) and the spice turmeric. Stretch your wrists and fingers 1-2 times a day. My Grand mother suffered from this horribly most of her adult life. She had a doctor have her consume one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar each morning and after that the chage was remarkable. I mean she was not out dancing... much. However she was able to live with a much less dose of bufferin and did return to crochet and needlepoint. Good Luck to you. i take enbrel injections for psoriasis and it helps my arthritis too, but i think they only prescribe it for rheumatoid if you don't have the skin problem. otherwise, i heard glucosmine and chondroitin supplements work eventually, and i found supplements of omega 3 fatty acids really help inflammation of my joints, flax seed oil capsules. even eating a few spoons of extra virgin olive oil with bread reduces inflammation for me, although temporarily only. good luck. Ask your doctor to give you gold injections for this. As you surely know, arthritis comes in many stages. It may be treated with Advil, or it may luckily be contained. My wife has Rheumatoid, which also breaks away the joints. She has been on Steroids,Methotrexate, Enbrel, Vioxx, and others I don't remember. She has taken Cortisone shots numerous times. She has been on Humira for about a year and it seems to be doing the best. However, last month, she finally had to have the fingers on her right fused. This relieved most of the pain. The limitations are not completely known yet, but the surgeon says that he has patients who work construction, play the piano, etc. |
