Can a person take glucosamine SULFATE for osteoarthritis if they also have Hep C?

a friend has real severe osteoarthritis in both knees, this person also has Hepatitis C. the doc wants them to do have knee replacement surgery but it cannot be done for awhile due to work contaraints. We heard glucosamine SULFATE may help osteoarthritis and rebuild cartilage but what about the shellfish ban for Hep c patients, glucosamine sulfate is made from the shell of shellfish.

probably its ok to take it cause its only the shell that is used in the Gluc and the danger to those living with Hep C is if you eat they the RAW meat of the shellfish, which sometime has it's own sort of Hepatitis that can KILL YOU if you have Hep C.
