Is it reommended to use Glocosamine for Osteoarthritis? |
My husband has an old history of osteoartritis in ankle and knee due to an accident 20 years back. Some doctors have recommended using Glocosamine though no concrete assurance of relief was given. Should I use and till how long? Here are a few links that will provide you with good information from medical professionals Currently, arthritis is incurable. Glucosamine has had more positive results than many treatments, but basically there are no guarantees it will work. I think that it is a good idea to try it, but if it doesn't have any effect after a few weeks, so back to the doctor and ask for some other advice. The benefit of glucosamine sulfate in patients with osteoarthritis is likely the result of a number of effects including its anti-inflammatory activity, the stimulation of the synthesis of proteoglycans(Proteoglycans are a major component of the animal extracellular matrix, the "filler" substance existing between cells in an organism. Here they form large complexes, both to other proteoglycans, to hyaluronan and to fibrous matrix proteins (such as collagen). They are also involved in binding cations (such as sodium, potassium and calcium) and water, and also regulating the movement of molecules through the matrix), and the decrease in catabolic activity of chondrocytes(cells found in cartilage. They produce and maintain the cartilaginous matrix, which consists mainly of collagen and proteoglycans) inhibiting the synthesis of proteolytic enzymes and other substances that contribute to damage cartilage matrix and cause death of articular chondrocytes. For joint health& comfort I reccomend Natrol "CetylPure"!! It works to lubricate joints & to promote mobile joint function, it also promotes the relief of joint discomfort!! I also have osteoarthritis!! |
