Orthodontia - URGENT Braces Questions from a recently "Braced" guy?

Hi
I got my clear braces yesterday. No elastic, just wire. A few (urgent) questions:
1) How long before I can expect to stop feeling that I have a ton of something in my mouth?
2) How long before I can expect to stop feeling the pain from the wires pulling-in at my teeth? Or is this permanent ?
3) The metal braces from my molars hurts my cheek. Is this temporary or permanent? what can I do about it?
4) I dont feel like talking a lot. Is this going to be permanent till I get the braces off?
5) What foods can I eat/not eat? I am a vegetaria. Can someone tell me whether I can eat each of the foll or not?
a) Subway Sandwich?
b) Falafel (deep fried brown/crisp fritter made of chickpeas)
c) Eggplant Paramesan?
d) Chipotle "Burrito Bol"?
e) Veggie Sandwich and Fries from McDs or In N Out?
f) Thin/Thick Crust Pizza
g) (Cold, Hard) Pita Bread w/Hummus
h) Spaghetti/Rice
i) Crispy Dosa -IndianFood

Ok, I am Orthodontist and probably can answer your questions:
1) How long before I can expect to stop feeling that I have a ton of something in my mouth?

A) It depends on person to person. But generally it should feel better in week and you will not feel any different and feel you have something in your mouth.

2) How long before I can expect to stop feeling the pain from the wires pulling-in at my teeth? Or is this permanent ?

A) Again in less than a week. But remember this, every time the Orthodontist changes into a new wire, you will feel the same way.

3) The metal braces from my molars hurts my cheek. Is this temporary or permanent? what can I do about it?

A) your cheeks will get uesd to them soon and they will toughen up enough to with stand the metal braces. In the mean time, use wax given by your Orthodontist.

4) I dont feel like talking a lot. Is this going to be permanent till I get the braces off?

A) you dont feel like talkinga lot because you are sore and self concisous about your braces. It is only a matter of time before you start yapping non stop.

5) What foods can I eat/not eat? I am a vegetaria. Can someone tell me whether I can eat each of the foll or not?

A) you can eat any thing mentioned below but just be careful when eating anything. Cut them into smaller peices and avoid hard cruncy stuff (especially pizza crust, baby carrots and apples). Avoind gum, popcorn, and coke. I am surprised that your Orthodontist did not give you the list of thns you can eat!!
a) Subway Sandwich?
b) Falafel (deep fried brown/crisp fritter made of chickpeas)
c) Eggplant Paramesan?
d) Chipotle "Burrito Bol"?
e) Veggie Sandwich and Fries from McDs or In N Out?
f) Thin/Thick Crust Pizza
g) (Cold, Hard) Pita Bread w/Hummus
h) Spaghetti/Rice
i) Crispy Dosa -IndianFood

Hope that helps and good luck

1. 3-5 days 2. in a day it will be gone . 3. No it's only temporary . 4.temporary 5. You can eat anything you want but not hard food. etc.

You have my sympathy...
1. A week or so and the pressure will lesson.
2. Same as above, but don't be suprised if it comes back a little each time you go to get them tightened.
3. Temporary, the orthos should have given you some wax to help with that. Roll some in a little ball and stick back there on the brace that is poking you.
4. Temporary...give it a few days.
5. You can eat anything you want but stay away from sticky things...bad for the cement on the braces.
You'll be happy you had the brances in the end.
