Hints for stoping adult thumb sucking? |
I've been sucking my thumb since I was in the womb and now after 25 year I really want to stop. I have had orthodontia when I was a teenage and now I'm going to have to repeat the painful process again to fix what I damaged. Need advice to stop this oral fixation. When I was a kid I used to suck my thumb alllll the time. My parents bought this liquid that goes on your thimb (it almost looked like clear nail polish.. bottle and all). It wouldn't hurt but if I tried to suck my thumb, it was like pouring hot sauce on my tounge. Try this.. It looks like what they used for me. And it did work chew gum. Just find something else to do. Plus your hands contains thousands of germs. Snap yourself with rubber bands, and get therapy. sex Put something very nasty tasting on it before sleeping. Something very bitter. Can't think of anything of the top of my head. I was a major finger sucker for years...till I was about 19 or so. It was embarassing. I just stopped on my own. pacifier I still stuck my thumb when im tired, bored, or stressed. . . I dont really think there is a step by step lesson to stop sucking your thumb. . . I try to keep gum in my mouth and find something to read and do when i catch myself doing ti JUST STOP-YOU ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, YOU ARE GROWN ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT IT IS DOING TO YOU PHYSICALLY AND SOCIALLY. nail polish remover on the thumb. we did it to my sister, noone wants a yucky taste in the mouth eh? If you do it at night to go to sleep try wearing gloves day time keep hand in pocket Good luck wow thats really bad. it'll result in crooked teeth...it probably has already. but anyways, i think you should put something that tastes verrryyy nasty on your thumb and if you suck on it..it'll make you stop i guess. thats what they do for kids that dont know any better. if they suck their thumb w/o knowing the nasty stuff thats on their thumb...then each time they suck the nasty stuff...they get disgusted and eventually stop. try not to be tempted to take it off. or ask someone else to watch you and make you dont suck your thumb and have them put a sticky substance on your thumb. if you're tempted to take it off..your friend of whoever will prevent you from doing that. have them be with you for a certain amount of hours and keep the substance on even after they leave if you're really devoted to stopping. if that doesnt work...go get thumb sucking therpy for it. im SURE they'll have it somewhere. I am 33 and have been sucking my thumb since I was 2 and fortunately I have no dental problems due to sucking my thumb, but since you do try to figure out when you suck your thumb the most like for me its close to bedtime or when I'm a little sleepy and once u figure out what time of the day or when u do it the most, find other things to do like if its not too late, go out and hang with some friends or something cause I never suck my thumb in public even when I have the urge to do so. |
