Organ donation question?

If you are donating an organ, eye, or other tissue to someone, whose health insurance covers the donor's medical expenses - the donor's or the recipient's?

One might reasonably expect the recipient's insurance would cover both.

Good question. I have no idea but I agree it seems natural that the recipient's insurance should cover it.

Edit: To the people who say you have to be dead to donate an organ... you are so wrong! The liver can regenerate itself so donating a piece of your live is prefectly fine if you're living. Also, many people donate kidneys while alive because you only really need one to survive. People people are actually doing trade offs with organs. Say I have a friend who wants to donate to me but we don't match, my friend will offer their organ to someone who they do match with in return for that person finding someone to donate an organ to me that matches.

Recipient's.

yours i thinkkkkk....iunno..

hope its recipient's
otherwise, it makes no sense

I have to congradulat you if your going to donate an organ !! That's a really brave thing but I don't know the answer to you question :( Sorry !!

with the f'd up state of health insurance in the US, I wouldn't expect them to pay anything. I would certainly not expect the recipient's insurance to pay the donor's expenses.

If you're donating an organ, you're likely going to be dead.... the recipient's insurance would cover their procedure and the organization that receives your organs would pay their expenses (which they would cover when the organ is used).

However, if you found some organization that would accept a donation of a working organ while you were alive..... I don't imagine they would get many offers like that, but I'm sure they would willingly accept it and wouldn't expect you to pay anything. After all, if you donate something, how often does the place accepting the donation require you to pay them for picking it up? That would be just like adding insult to injury (literally, in this case).

Recipient

If you are donating an organ and are most likely dead. Who would care they can't get money from you.

I have left my organs for free although now getting a little tattie.

So if your offered a new heart and havent got the cash your DEAD.....god bless america...sorry only in america

It's usually a deceased person that is the doner so why would they need insurance cover ???

I have a Hammond to donate. But the Goodwill won't take it. I am not sure whether I am covered for this.

I believe its the recipients.

But I'm guessing that hospitals will gouge it out of anyone they can get it from.

However, since the donor is generally dead......Im not sure the donor HAS medical expenses.

EDIT : Hootie - yes, but this particular person asked about an "eye", so I assumed they were talking about organ donation after the donor had passed on. If the donor was alive, I'd still assume that the recipient's insurance would cover all expenses.
