How does organ donation work?

I've heard that even if you go into a coma, doctors can declare you "dead" and then start cutting you open to get the fresh organs. Is this true?

very rigorour tests of brain function are done, and repeated to ensure lack of brain activity.but your question smacks of sarcasm?

Only on a Monty Python movie...

I work in an Emergency Room, so I think I'm qualified to answer this.

When you die your family has the right to allow your organs to be donated.

In some cases your organs are needed "alive" and your family can make the decision when you are clearly about to die, to allow your organs to be removed.

This freaks alot of people out and it RARELY happens by choice of the family.

The best thing to avoid this strife for your family is to have an advanced directive prepared upon entering the hospital or a living will stating your intentions.

Lol don't worry about it man! Death is a touchy subject for me but lol you shouldn't worry about it. And no they won't you have to sign a contract. Im actually going to donate my organs. And the doctors would know you were alive if you were in a coma. That would be MURDER if they decided to slice and dice you man!! lol - Avie - 鈾モ櫕
