God bless you, I too am a donor and I am also a recipient. I recieved a double lung transplant in December 1997. I am still alive because of someone who felt the same way you do. For myself and all other recipients, past present and future, thank you.

good for you: not going to need them once yer dead, might as well help someone else out.

Yes, I definitely agree with you here. I've been an organ donor since I got my driver's liscence when I was 16. I really don't understand why anybody would oppose it...you're not going to need your organs when you're dead, so why not give life to somebody else?

I'm an organ donor because I feel that after I die, I don't need the organs anymore, so they should go to someone who does need them.

Make sure you have a real will filed with an attorney, not just the little notation on your drivers license, and make sure some of your family or friends know you have a will. Even with the notation on your license, your family may have a hard time accepting your decision, especially if you are young when you die. Having it spelled out in writing makes it much easier for families to accept your wishes.

FWIW, I'm a donor if I die and I have it in a will. I lost a friend in a motorcycle accident last summer and his organs went to 8 different people... and a really close friend was a transplant recipient about 2 months ago.

Another thing that should make people realize it is good to donate is the fact that during the preparation process for burial, the internal organs are punctured so that they can fill the body cavity with embalming fluid. It isn't like we are buried without the organs being touched.

I too am a donor and I think it is a great gift for survivors to help others and see that their loved one's death was not in vain.

Not me- retired military...
delema..in the field--who would make the determination of who got who's organ's- the military in the mid 80's wanted us to volunteer and cary a donors card..not me...0 Neg- blood ..I work in anyone...only 0 neg works in 0-neg- not a whole lot of 0 neg out there...sorry..I know it is awesome when someone can live from your organs...truly a delema in any disaster as well...sorry! if not for that I would...
