Organ donations; are there laws in America regarding this?

I need to know the conditions/laws that pertain to any organ(specifically the heart) transplant/donations..

I need hard facts...if you know some websites/know it please let me know...im all ears.thanks

I am researching for a philosophy project; situation basically consists of the heart comming from a 18 year-old chinese prisoner (not dying though, he is willing to die)
Thanks

In America, it is illegal to buy/sell human organs and/or tissue.

You can start here.
www.organdonor.gov/organizations/organ...

What specifically do you need to know?

There is a window of time for each organ. From the moment it is removed to the moment it is transplanted.

A heart has 4 hours. That means that within 4 hours from procurement to transplant. More than that and the organ begins to deteriorate and may be too damaged for a successful transplant.

This is why a person on the East Coast doesn't usually receive an organ from a donor on the West Coast. It takes too long to retrieve and return.

If your prisoner is in China it seems like it would be unlikely for someone in the states to receive it. A person in China, different matter.

Other questions?

With those criteria the person would probably not even be listed for transplant. There is an extensive evaluation that patients go through before they are even listed.

But with enough money I guess a doctor, hospital, and organ could be bought. Although you still have the time issue. How do you get it from China in a 4 hour window?

You also have the post transplant recovery and care to consider. Will the bought doctor and hospital be able to support the care of a fresh transplant? This isn't something you can slam dunk and walk away from. We;re 9 months out and are back in the hospitla with additional complications.

i found a site where people did what you want to do
