Does a cancer patient (not oral cancer) require a special dentist?

Does a cancer patient (not oral cancer) require a special dentist?

No. A cancer patient can use their own dentist but just use some precautions. Usually your oncologist will prescribe an antibiotic before any dental treatemnt. The dentist should have all your medical information and be made aware if you have any bleeding issues. You should also inform your doctor if you are on chemotherapy and try to schedule your appointment when your immune system has recovered (usually sometime after nadir). Otherwise you should be fine with a regular dentist.

Not as far as I know. In many cases, an antibiotic is taken before dental care treatments, even by patients with organ or joint replacemant.

Not a special dentist...but you should let your oral hygienist and your dentist know that you are being treated for cancer, since your white blood counts may be low, and if they are too "tough" on the scrubbing, can cause infections you don't need.

You should also tell the dentist if you are going through radiation therapy.
