Does going to rehab for opiates affect all my medical records?my dad is a dr & i dont want him finding out..?

I am 19, F, & addicted to opiates. I started a year or so ago just gettin high off them on weekends and it has grown to an every day thing. I dont take many, usually 2-4 pills every evening. If i dont get any some nights, i get extreme anxiety and have physical withdrawls. My friend is an addict also, and is trying to get me to go to rehab with him. We found a rehab center that uses suboxone. I heard that when you go to rehab, it goes on all of your medical records and you can not be prescribed opiates EVER again. My problem is, that my dad is a doctor. My family doctor that i go to is good friends with my dad. They work in the same office. My parents do not know that i am an addict. I know there is patient-doctor confidentiality, but i am afraid if rehab goes on my medical records my dad will find out. Is this true? is there a possibility this can happen? i do NOT want my parents knowing about this yet. im not addicted bad yet, but i want to end it secretly before it gets bad!

If your on dads insurance he will find out. Suboxone is a good drug but you can become just as addicted to it if not worse. You say you take 2-4 pills a day , are they vikes or Oxys? BIG difference in detox symptoms! If your not real bad yet you could wheen your self down and off of them, if there vikes you will have a few bad nights ,WAY better than getting hooked on suboxone! If your snorting Oxys its gonna be rough! but it can be done ,And I suggest that you do it at home or in rehab before you have to detox in a jail cell like so many end doing, When you get cleaned out, Stay away from your friends who are still doing them and NEVER forget what you went through to clean up, I know what your going through and if you want you can E-mail me and I will answer question or help if I can. oxys, percocets, hydrocodone, pretty much anything i can find day by day. i don not snort anything. my addiction is mostly mental with anxiety and depression but it has become physical. im sure i could wean myself off but they are always available and i have no will power! Report It

Your medical history should be private unless the law is investigating it for a very important reason. The only way that I can see him finding out is through your insurance. If you have your own insurance, there is nothing to worry about. But if you are under his medical insurance, there really is no way of avoiding the consequence.

Also, as a recovering addict myself, I feel compelled to inform you that I will always be an addict because it doesn't leave you. I may not have used drugs in over three years now but that doesn't diminish the fact that I am an addict or that I continue to need the treatment necessary to deal with the "disease" of addiction.

You see, once a person has crossed the line and becomes an addict, they cannot undo it. So daily treatment of the disease is necessary to achieve ongoing recovery.

If your parents find out, they will react the way they will react - you can't change that. Accept responsibility for who you are and what you have done. Only then can you move forward.
