What could cause you to fail a drug screen (opiates) & never used prescription pain killers or heroin or any?

I am five months pregnant & had to take a drug screen for my ins. It came back positive for opiates. how could this be? I have never taken drugs & since I have become pregnant I have not taken any over the counter medications.

Poppy seeds!!!!! I never knew about this until my uncle told me about it recently...he would know cause he worked for the FBI in the 60s.

I saw this on mythbusters, season 2 episode 12, the only way you can do it is if you eat like 5 poppy seed bagels, just tons of poppy seeds

Bailey O seems to have taken my answer. Mythbusters did part of an episode on the myth that poppy seeds may trigger drug tests w/ opiates.

I would try re-taking the drug screening, if possible.

Sometimes it's poppy seeds in hamburger buns.

Or, it could be some herbal medicine, like Valerian.

Or they might have mixed your sample with someone else's.

Demand a Re-test.
