IF YOU ARE A CANCER PATIENT AND THEY GIVE YOU OPIATES DOES THIS mean that u gonna die? |
I have a friend thats shes a cancer patient and is in the hospital and she is very bad, the doctor gave her opiates and people told me that if they give her that that means she might die soon, is this correct? I just learned she died this morning. thank u all for your opinions. It isn't good. What they are doing is giving her something to help her deal with the pain. In other words, they are just trying to make her comfortable. Sorry. No it doesn't mean she is going to die. Cancer, and treatments can be very painful. They are just trying to help her be more comfortable. The important thing is whether they are continuing treatments or not. Pain killers have nothing to do with dying, unless they are overdosing to aid in the process, which wouldn't be common practice (or legal) anyway. The term opiate is a broad discriptive for a large group of drugs generally used to treat pain. Some commonly known examples are Demerol, Codeine, Morphine, Percodan and Vicodan. While patients in the latter stages of cancer are often treated with these drugs to alleviate their pain, as you know, some of these drugs are also used after procedures as minor as a root canal. Their use is in no way a predictor of mortality. I am sorry to say but that is correct. do you know what is an opiate? Opiates encompass a broad spectrum of narcotics that are widely used for pain relief in many different scenarios, not just cancer. Opiates include prescription drugs like morphine, codeine, oxycodone and hydrocodone. I think I even have two prescriptions of "opiates" in my medicine cabinet right now...prescribed at different times for different reasons. I'm not "ill," I don't have cancer, and I'm not dying. They're used for pain...and, unfortunately, cancer can sometimes be painful. But the use of opiates does not mean that your friend is going to die. The use of opiates means your friend won't be in quite as much pain while the doctors treat the disease. No it does not mean that she will die. Do never give up on her OK. Motivate her, she can do it! It will be better! Please support her. I been their down that! Everyone has to show and give her lot of love. When I was in the hospital, my friends, business partner and my costumers all signed and write something for me on a huge get well card. When I looked it that card I realized how much I have to live for. I think that was 50% witch help me to get better! Crudly put.........Probably. We have had two relatives die recently and their treetment was to be comforted. opiates , like morphine are given in severe pain. sometimes cancer can produce excruciating pain, because it can spread around a nervous component with the obvious result. unfortunately in most cases ,in this stage of the disease killing pain is the only thing left to do. i`m sorry for this answer , but it is so. |
